Ten years ago, on September 20, 2014, Iron Battalion CrossFit opened its doors in Canoga Park, California. What started as a dream took shape during a sweltering summer in the Valley, where we built the gym from the ground up. With 115-degree heat radiating from every surface, we painted walls, assembled equipment, and dreamed of creating something special—Iron Battalion CrossFit. We hit the streets, local parks, and went door-to-door, letting the world know that Iron Battalion had arrived.
In 2015, we hosted our first major charity competition, “Girls Gone RX Los Angeles.” The event quickly became a sensation, bringing together strong, dedicated women to compete for a cause, and it only grew from there. Over the years, our annual competition attracted athletes and their affiliate cheer teams from across the region. In our biggest year of competition, we had participants from 35 different CrossFit gyms, along with their entire communities, traveling from all over California and Nevada to support their teams. It was a true testament to the strength and unity of the CrossFit community, showcasing the powerful bonds forged through fitness and competition.
In 2019, we reached a new milestone by acquiring Team CrossFit, one of the original affiliates. We moved to Woodland Hills, excited to expand and merge two incredible communities. We poured our hearts into remodeling, finishing construction, and proudly hanging our new sign—only to be met by the unexpected challenge of COVID-19. Like so many small businesses, we fought to survive. It was a tough decision, but we ultimately had to close our doors.
The past ten years have been a journey filled with triumphs, challenges, laughter, and tears. But through it all, we’ve never lost our passion for CrossFit or our commitment to helping others live happier, healthier lives. Now, here we are in beautiful Lake Tahoe, rebuilding and growing our Battalion in a new community with great attitudes and high altitudes.
We are so grateful for the love and support that has carried us through this journey. To everyone who’s been a part of Iron Battalion’s story—thank you. Here’s to 10 incredible years and many more to come.
Much love,
Sony and the Iron Battalion Team
