A Look At Kettlebells. Kettlebells are cast iron balls with a handle attached to the top of it. They are typically used for exercises that benefit cardiovascular strength, flexibility, and weight training.
Kettlebells can be seen in different forms throughout history and across the world. In 18th century Russia, there was a giyra, a weight used to weigh crops. The 19th century circus strongmen were seen using them to train and show off their strength in competitions and performances. Eventually they were used in athletic competitions throughout Russia and Europe. Greece and China had similar versions of the kettlebell as well.
“The kettlebell allows for swing movements and release moves with added safety and added grip, wrist, arm and core strengthening. The weight of a kettlebell is not distributed evenly. Thus, the unique shape of a kettlebell provides the “unstable force” for handling.” (Bodybuilding.com)
Kettlebells can be swung, thrown, juggled, pressed, held, and moved around in many ways.
